If you’ve read my About page, you know I’m a pretty positive, upbeat person working to fill big dreams! I’ve been having a blast living it up Megan style almost my entire life! I eat real food, I’ve built a business around motivating people to be fit AF, I’m a lover, a mother, a family person, a planner, an early bird, an energizer bunny and more! I don’t get too pissed off unless you piss me off and then I’m pissed. Being pissed off pisses me off. I’d rather get a little bummed out and then move on. Well, lately I’ve been super pissed! I don’t know if it’s pregnancy hormones, the stress of trying to do it all, or the fact that people are totally ripping off what makes me, my business and my brand unique – the Megan Twist. (scroll back on my IG or FB accounts to see how long I’ve been branding myself & brand!)

Usually I can shake off being pissy; I reset my attitude and get back to my high-vibing self. But this past weekend, I decided I’m lit over a few things and I’m going to share so others can tell me how they handle their pissed offness (is that even a word?).

From little on, I’ve really loved to get people to do things outside of their comfort zones. This includes all sorts of things! My family and friends have been playing along for years. We’ve done extreme games, including obstacle courses with shopping carts at bonfires, we’ve eaten powdered donuts off strings dressed like witches, I’ve thrown more than a few costume parties with unlimited kegs, jello shots and DJs, and I’ve had almost every person I know be pulled on a banana inner tub behind a speed boat (if you haven’t done this with me yet, you’re next!) Pushing people slightly out of their comfort zones is my fucking jam. So when I started SIU, I was thrilled to finally show the world the Megan Twist!

If you look in my 2020 Webster Dictionary, here’s what you will find: Megan Twist (n); take something basic and then crank up the volume by adding some flare (costume, swag, themed item), include something worth wanting (booze, prizes, more swag) collect participants, make all participants feel like a fucking queen or king, document the entire thing with photos and videos, and then have participants craving more.

It’s literally MY FAVORITE THING EVER!!! I’ve had a lot of fun and success making things 100% Megan original! I’ll share my past favorite Megan Twisted events at a later date!

Now we all know inspiration comes from somewhere! So yes, I follow influencers, Pinterest pages, other similar companies, cool people doing cool shit and I Google things. But whenever, and I repeat whenever I find inspiration or an idea I add the Megan Twist to make it mine! I have to. Making something yours with your original style is the fun! It’s what makes a brand a brand, it’s what sets companies apart and it’s what make every individual unique. To be unique takes work, creativity, hours of brainstorming, journaling, research.the list goes on! For me, it’s half the fun.

But, a girl can only take so much! The past year it’s been brought to my attention that others are downright copying my originality and Megan twists that are unique to me. Like I said, I can usually shake it off knowing these people were inspired by me – as I am inspired by others, too. Remember, I like motivating and helping people, so it’s hard for me to get pissed over something so minimal when life is about so much more. My hopes for people who find me inspiring are that they will take something I’ve created, (example SIU’s Fitness Bingo for prizes) and put their own creative twist on it –.instead of literally taking the Megan Twist and not twisting it at all. Or how about giving the person who creates awesome stuff some credit? Yes, I’ve “copied” people. I mean Bobbi Jo Fischer has the best style ever; I bought the same shoes she had on! But I told her she inspired me and I gave her 100% credit. She’s awesome and a total style influencer. By me seeing her in the cute shoes, I knew I had to have them! Get inspired and then give credit! It’s really not that hard!

Asking for a friend here: how do ya’ll handle the copy game? I am all for collaboration, helping the next person, sharing tips and celebrating everyone’s success … really I am. Half my energy goes into promoting things and people I love – seeing multiple blog posts dedicated to services, people and brands I love! I know there’s enough to go around, I believe all that and more but Hey, now, hey, hands off the Megan Twist. If you take something I’ve created, at least twist it into your own, make it unique and authentic.

Help me get rid of the pissed offness! Send me your best tips, advice, suggestions! How does one deal?

  1. Amen! It’s something that always happens to good things and ideas. The problem with today’s society is we now get “blessed” to have our stuff slapped in our face thanks for social media outlets….
My example- a bride wants a picture of the same bouquet as a picture she shows me. I make it clear I will follow the idea but it will need to not be exact and I will put my “twist” on it.
People have copied many of my ideas…oh I get pissed😂 …then I step back and take with a grain of salt and be thankful I’m “so awesome” someone wants to be just like me!😉
