I created a tag line for SIU without thinking too hard. I wanted something fun, catchy and cool (exactly like the brand!). Mission statements are too serious for me; they seem so permanent. I am not that into serious or permanent. I like freedom, don’t put Megan in a box. I always knew I had to work for myself because coloring outside the lines is my jam!

When people ask me “What’s SIU’s mission?” I change it up. It’s like chef’s choice daily! You know it’s going to be good, made with love: somedays, SIU is about making people fit and the next day it’s about making people happy and some days it’s strictly for kicking ass! One week, our mission is no sugar, green vegetables only, 1,000 burpees, no rest. The next week, our mission is get on the beach with a cocktail in hand, rocking a new swimsuit that you worked your ass off to fit into. The next week, it’s revenge body because Spring Break was way to much fun. Dude, SIU is the real deal. We ebb and flow with life and we understand it’s hard to be perfect all the time. So when I created a slogan for the brand instead of a mission statement, I wanted it to come from the heart while representing everything I preach (and what I live up to)!

Shape It Up: Your Ass, Your Attitude, Your Life! I’ve loved it since day one. It’s all true! The company I’ve branded is just that! We work on your body, your mind and lifting your spirit! Holla if you hear me SIUers!! It’s our goal and I’m serious AF about it! It’s all about coloring outside the lines while making sure to be mindful and consistent about taking care of you!

Anyway, about nine or 10-ish weeks ago, a long lost childhood friend messaged me about a smoothie recipe I posted on my IG story. She was intrigued about the smoothie. She asked two questions:

1. Is it any good?

2. If I thought it would help her lose weight?

I went off into a rant that I don’t drink smoothies for weight loss but I love them for the quick nutrients they provide. I said SIU can help with weight loss; let’s start with what you are currently eating. She was quick to respond, “I normally grab a pop tart on my way out the door and I’m starving by 9 a.m. so I snack on junk until lunch and I’m also a picky eater.” Holy shit! I started to freak out to Marcus almost instantly, I said, “Who the fuck eats pop tarts for breakfast?” He questioned pop tarts still existing, since we both couldn’t remember the last time we ate a pop tart. With a few more laughs about pop tarts, I quickly came up with a game plan for my friend!

Right away I knew my smoothie recipe wasn’t the cure-all trick she was looking for. I sent her an 8- week Boot Camp with Megan protocol that included a testimonial and before/after photos. She thought about it for a day or two and then got back to me. She said, “Ok, I’m in! I’m nervous and I am not sure I will get any results!” I was fucking pumped because these are my favorite kind of clients! People who think results won’t happen with small changes. Color outside the lines and prove them wrong, that’s my goal!

She showed up a few days later, kind of scared, a little shy but eager to get going. We started slow with fitness and a few diet tweaks. First to go and never be bought again, pop tarts! She agreed to change her breakfast up I suggested some good quality toast with natural, no sugar-added peanut butter. I am not exactly sure what kind of toast or PB she’s having, but she switched. She then ditched her 9 a.m.sugar-loaded snack for something filled with fat and protein. She added vegetables into her lunch, cut back on the afternoon sweet treats and agreed to put vegetables into her dinner routine. Each week, we added one more diet modification; something small that she could easily do. Our Saturday morning ass-kicking sessions started off slowly but quickly ramped up. She is now running on a treadmill at faster, more uncomfortable speeds, cranking out full sit ups, showing 10-pound weights “who’s boss” while keeping consistent with her “at-home” workouts. She shared with me her daughter has now been encouraging her to work out and often joins in with her! (Lead by example people!!!) Her at-home workout includes body weight exercises, cardio on a treadmill or bike and some floor exercises with the kiddos.

Over the past two months, I couldn’t be more proud of the progress Jamie has made! When we started working together, her attitude was pretty shitty toward fitness and cutting out sugar; she also didn’t think results would come. But each week I watched her slowly get happier and more excited about herself. Saying bye to sugar and sweating daily is one of the best things you can do for your ass, attitude and life. Today I am sharing her story as an inspiration to others who might be eating too much sugar and sitting on the couch. If Jamie can do it with two small kids, a full time work schedule, lack of motivation (at first), and plenty of excuses (that we broke down) then you can, too. Right Jamie?! All it took was 60 days to Shape Up her ass, attitude and life; now she’s hooked and part of the SIU Crew!
